Weekend was great. I'll give an overview.
Rented a 4x4 SUV. Tammy drove there. I drove back. Left Friday afternoon for Monteverde, like 4 hours away. Monteverde has a rainforest. It is beautiful. Lots of mountain driving to get there. Tammy had never really driven on rocky dirt roads before.
Stayed in a hostel in Monteverde for $10/night. Tammy didn't like it, but Kevin and I did. He got bitten by bed bugs. Went to a bar that night and had a banana smoothie. So innocent! Cooked dinner at the hostel. Sausage links with cheese and tortilla and salsa and chips. ATe on the porch.
Wake up 6:30 next day. Leave out for rainforest. Very nice tour. The guide was good. It rained on us. Pics on facebook.
Drive to La Fortuna after. Found out that we were booked for a hotel that was different than where Kev and Tam had stayed week before. So, we changed the reservations to one outside of town, very private, green, beautiful, and right next to the volcano! It was actually a cabin. Went out to eat. Bought wine. I mixed with grape juices. very good. watched a movie. bed....
next day....wake up early. walk down road with kevin while tammy wrote postcards. free breakfast. drive to venado caves. I was navigator again. jeff would be proud. no one doubted my word b/c we always got to where we were going! switched drivers on rougher roads, so i drove. a few times, kevin said, "i am so glad you are from arkansas. i feel safe that you are driving."
Got to the cave. good tour. more wild than expected. i enjoyed it. kevin started shaking at one point. tammy and kevin didn't like the bugs! huge spiders!
after, drove back. took a side road or two, but i knew which direction, so got back on track. car had issues with acceleration several times,..didn't know why.
brought car back to san jose. bus to downtown. airline attendant that we met helped us get to the next bus station...like 15 min walk away. got on bus. missed stop. took us to curridabat....way out, and was not going back. i was frustrated, b/c i should have just gotten off sooner. taxi back to town. got home....showered.....went to bed and slept 10 hours!
good trip overall. So much adventure! so much fun! too bad we didn't find the dinosaurs!
