Huh, interesting. I was only able to read it in English, but I thought it was well written. I love the description of the train-ride through the plains, however I find the end disappointing in some ways...for him to die, just when he is enjoying life seems so cruel (however, I guess its true to the experience of life)....so tragic.

So it's kind of hard to follow the story when the protagonist does not pay much attention to his own life because "the mechanism of events did not concern him." On that note, I liked the ending because he finally makes the decision to take control of his life. That's very satisfying because this is what the main character has been yearning for, and as a reader, you think, "Thank goodness, maybe if the old guy doesn't die, the story will get a little bit more coherent now." The author's overall use of description is pretty interesting. Not only does he describe things vividly and in such quick succession, but he really forces you to admire why he does this: to allow the reader to understand the loneliness and fragmentation the main character really sees in his everyday life. I could say more, but I'll restrain from the really in depth English major comments.

I think the level of detail and choice of diction are impressive. However, I feel that the story is rather random and that this detracts from its message.

hmm I had to read it in spanish, of course. The story was full of descriptions and detail so I could clearly see pictures and scenes such as the train ride. The words were carefully picked to set the mood. At the same time, the story's choice of words were confusing for understanding the plot. I'm not sure what the story's message was or why it just left the reader hanging at the end. I don't know why the guy was sick, why he was interested in the book, or why he was even on the train. It just felt pointless. I felt like I was seeing several pictures rather than reading a short story... or that the story was focussing more on the little details rather than the plot's progression. :P

I really liked that story. It was very detailed so it was easy to identify with the main character. I also really liked the ending because the main character finally took control of this own life. Great story!!
